India’s Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) explicitly discriminates against Muslim immigrants in granting citizenship.

During the briefing, a panel of experts from the U.S. and India — including from the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch (HRW) — will offer detailed analyses of and perspective on the CAA.

Indian panelists will share their firsthand account of state repression and police brutalities, which have killed more than 30 protesters and incarcerated thousands, including minors. The briefing will also discuss the executive and legislative actions for U.S. government and Congress to ensure that India repeals the discriminatory law.
